Downtown Plainfield is an excellent location for retail, restaurant, office and mixed-use developments. Plainfield is centrally located between Naperville to the north, Oswego to the west, Shorewood and Joliet to the south, and Bolingbrook to the east. The five-mile trade area for downtown Plainfield encompasses approximately 150,000 people and extends from 111th Street in south Naperville to Black Road in Shorewood, and from east of Weber Road in Bolingbrook to beyond the WIKADUKE Trail on the west. The five-mile trade area population is projected to grow to nearly 200,000 by 2013. Downtown Plainfield is also the crossroads of four designated highways, including IL-59, IL-126, US-30 (historic Lincoln Highway) and I-55.

The current median household income is $85,338 and the average household income is $100,779. More than 64 percent of households earn more than $75,000. The top three tapestry segments, as identified by ESRI, are Booburbs, Sophisticated Squires, and Pleasant-Ville. According to ESRI, these tapestry segments are affluent and well educated. Employment in high-paying positions such as professional or managerial occupations is common. As a result, the median household income for this group exceeds $94,000, almost twice that of the national median. Most households are married couple families residing in affluent neighborhoods where median home values surpass $290,000.
