- Artist's Rendering of Completed Project (2 MB - Mar. 2008)
This illustration shows what the finished product will look like, with a view looking northeast from Andreasen Travel toward Des Plaines Street, with the renovated Masonic Lodge building in the foreground and the Plymouth Congregational Church as a bookend on the north side of Lockport Street. This drawing shows the raised intersection with paver graphic, extensive limestone seat walls, well-landscaped planters, curbed planter beds, and many pedestrian benches that will help achieve a pedestrian-focused shopping and dining environment.
- Gateway Concept (350 KB - updated April 2008)
The attached file illustrates a signature gateway element that has been designed for the project. The artwork is intended to evoke the Village's agricultural past and was inspired by waves of wheat grass undulating in the field. Two gateway fixtures, with variable-colored, central light columns, are proposed in the area of the pocket park north of Fox River Street. The wheat grass element is also incorporated into the decorative sign poles.
- Decorative Sign Family (2.1 MB - updated April 2008)
A family of custom lighted signage has been designed for the downtown district. The attached exhibit shows the proposed directonal signage (for example, parking directional signs), street name signs, wayfinding signs, double-sided kiosk directory signs and a downtown Plainfield identification sign. Wayfinding signage is proposed along Route 59 and Route 126 (Main Street) adjacent to the downtown core. Directional signage would be placed leading to the five public parking lots. Lighted street signs are proposed on Lockport Street. Three kiosk signs are proposed for Lockport Street and one in the area of the Plainfield Public Library on Illinois Street. The Downtown Plainfield identity sign is proposed to be located near the intersection of Main Street and Lockport Street.
- Construction Schedule Overview (870 KB - July 2008)
The attached file provides an overview of the construction schedule. The project is separated into two main phases -- with construction of the north side of Lockport Street as the first phase and construction of the south side improvements as the second phase. The schedule will be updated and posted to the website monthly. The current schedule was posted on July 7, 2008.
- Lockport Street Streetscape Design (1.3 MB - Jan. 2008)
Attached is an exhibit showing the streetscape design for Lockport Street per the final construction plans. The design calls for expanded sidewalk areas by eliminating the center turning lane between Fox River and Illinois Streets. Seatwalls, raised planters, pedestrian benches, decorative lighting and a sound system will be installed in the enhanced pedestrian areas. Sidewalks may also be used for outdoor dining and retail sales displays. The plan includes the addition of three mid-block pedestrian crossings, as well as raised intersections at Fox River, Des Plaines and Illinois Streets. The raised intersection at Des Plaines Street will be inset with a logo graphic in brick pavers (refer to the logo graphic file).
- Raised Intersection Logo Graphic (503 KB - March 2008)
As seen in the Artist's Rendering, the streetscape design includes a downtown logo inset in brick pavers in the raised intersection of Lockport Street at Des Plaines Street. The proposed design is shown in the attached exhibit.
- Family of Streetscape Elements (407 KB - Nov. 2007)
This file illustrates the family of site furnishings and other streetscape elements -- from pedestrian benches and bike racks to brick pavers -- that are recommended to be implemented with the project. These recommendations are based on a survey of possible choices that was conducted in September and October of 2007. The illustrations show the recommended products, although the specific color choices for each item have not yet been determined. Also, several bollards are still shown pending a final recommendation. You are invited to submit your comments using the Feedback/Comments form.
